Tap Takes Off In India

Tap and salsa are becoming all the rage amongst India's youth, reports webindia123. Simone Gupta, a tap dance instructor at the Delhi School of Music, says "people are more attracted to these kinds of dances, as they do not involve the intricacies of classical dancing."

Gregory Hines To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Gregory Hines will receive the Posthumous Lifetime Achievement award at the Thirteenth Annual Catholics in the
Media Associates (CIMA) Mass & Awards Luncheon on November 6th, 2005. The event
is being held at the Beverly
Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

Tap Cruise Does The West Coast

The 2nd annual "Tap On Water" cruise leaves the port of Los Angeles on January 20th, 2006, and sails for Ensenada, featuring master classes with Jason Samuels Smith as well as nightly tap jams on deck hosted by Chloe Arnold and Jason. Carnival Cruise Lines' well-appointed Paradise ship hosts the 3-day cruise.

American Tap Dance Foundation Honors Tappers

At the 2005 Tap City Tap Festival, Sammy Davis Jr. and Peg Leg Bates were inducted into the International Tap Dance Hall of Fame. Sarah Petronio was presented with the organization's Hoofer Award and Delilah Jackson with the Tap Preservation Award. Read about it in this New York Times article.

Jane Goldberg On Tap

Tapper, historian, and tap goodwill ambassador Jane Goldberg writes about the evolution of tap, tap festivals, and tap tradition in the New York Times.
"While tap may not be on the tip of everyone's tongue right now," writes Goldberg, "it is incubating in festivals in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Austin and Chicago....Can the Tap Fringe Festival be far behind?"

Tap Dogs Creator Reflects On 10th Anniversary

Tap Dogs creator Dein Perry reflects on the success of his tap concept show 10 years later in this interview. "I grew up in Newcastle and I left school when I was 16. I got a job in the steelworks. We didn't finish work until the sun come up, we didn't start till about 11 o'clock at night, and there was plenty of time to dream - well, not dream - I had to think about what else could I do with my life. The only other thing I knew was dancing. "
