The New York Committee to Celebrate National Tap Dance Day holds their annual Tap Extravaganza tonite in New York City. Arthur Duncan, Mable Lee, Frankie Manning, George Wein, and Leroy Meyers will be honored for their various contributions to the arts.
May 25th is the anniversary of Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson's birth. Just wanted to keep this date in the minds of all who are fans of tap dance or who are hoofers themselves. And of course, it is National Tap Day!

It's not illegal to tap dance for money in New Orleans' French Quarter, but the city is cracking down on unsupervised tap dancing minors. One mom was convicted of making her kids tap dance for money, according to this article in the New Orleans Times-Picayune. It was certainly profitable as it only took her kids a couple of hours to "rake in $150."
An open stage jam session will take place in Paris, France on Saturday, May 22nd. The Jam will honor the memory of Gregory Hines and will take place at the Opus Cafe from 7pm-10pm. Admission is 12 euros. The Opus Cafe is located at 167 Quai de Valmy. Phone: 01-40-34-70-00
