Vancouver Tap Dance Society's Tap Co and North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble

Canada and America's best young tap stars join rhythmic forces
in one electrifying performance January 10, at the Norman Rothstein Theatre

Vancouver Tap Dance Society (VTDS) is delighted to present Maple Leaf - Stars & Stripes - an exhilarating two-hour presentation by over 30 of North America's most talented young tap dancers. VTDS's youth troupe Tap Co will be hitting the floorboards with 12 of North Carolina's Youth Tap Ensemble dancers, the pre-eminent youth tap group in the United States. As David Hinckley, of The New York Daily News noted after a performance, "Anyone who thinks tap is a curiosity from Fred Astaire movies just hasn't been listening."

These seasoned young professionals will jointly present the legendary works of the masters, such as Coles Walk Around, the Chair Dance, Shim Sham, and B S Chorus and commissioned choreography by such luminaries as Josh Hilberman, Keith Terry, Brenda Bufalino, Dianne Walker and many more.

Tap Dance Float to Appear at 2008 Rogers Santa Parade

What is that sound? Tappers will be heard as they tap out rhythms on the VTDS float in the 2008 Rogers Santa Parade

Tap Co. with guest artists are thrilled to be performing on the open stage sharing their passion with everyone in their inaugural Rogers Santa Parade on Sunday, December 7th, 2008. They hope it sparks enthusiasm to get everyone tapping their feet! Members of the company will be tapping out a unique "Chair Dance" a historical piece from the legendary Copasetics with over 40 Vancouver Tap Dance Society (VTDS) marchers enthusiastically cheering them on.

Tap Co, a professional youth ensemble, under the artistic direction of Mika Komatsu, is comprised of 16 youth ranging in ages from 9-18 years. The company was formed by VTDS in 2001 to entertain and inform audiences of the complexities of rhythm tap and to carry on the legacy of the great tap masters. The influence of masters has inspired younger people to love this art form and be dedicated to learning and contributing their own artistry to the mix, such as, smooth flash, break dancing, funk and hip hop.
