I have recently started having my students create short combinations which I stipulate must include certain steps. That way they have to really start thinking about how certain steps fit together. I also let them do "free choice" across the floor, which just means they can do any step they want. I find that giving the kids a little bit of freedom to do what THEY want keeps them interested. How much freedom do you give your kids?
